Raised:$3,750Goal:$55,000

The preserved culture is what is making the Maasai community unique but on the other hand there are some harmful cultural practices that is still practiced. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

and Early/forced marriages are among the most harmful cultural practices that is done in the Maasai Community. As an organization that is championing for the right of Maasai girls and women, Ewang’an Foundation will be doing

campaign against FGM, early marriages and teenage pregnancies in entire Narok county. The campaign will be done from village to villages approach, testimonial approach from the individual who have gone through FGM, early marriages and teenage pregnancies ,using youth as the campaign tool against this harmful cultural practices, using FGM women doctors to educate the community against this vice, problem identification through door to door engagements with the locals and also through radio shows where we will publicly discuss about the effects of FGM and the need of stopping it because its harmful to the health of the girls who undergo. Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA) are the same women who does the FGM in the villages, we will be using these women to campaign against the act and also discuss with them about possible alternative rite of passages that can be used instead of FGM. 25% of all Kenyan girls younger than 15years old are married and 75% of the girls in Maasai Community undergo FGM especially those uneducated that live in the villages. 25% of all Kenyan girls younger than 15years old are married and about 60% Maasai community below the age of 18 years are married. However, Ewang’an Foundation has decided to bridge the gap by reaching the unreached in the communities and empower them. The alternative way Ewang’an Foundation is using to end/minimize early marriages, FGM is by advocating for the education of the girls even those that are in the remote villages, Through community conversations, they will be change in gender and social norms to create pace where women voices will be listened and are respected, mind shift through regular sharing of information, and mobilisation of the drivers of the law using multisectoral approach will enable more effective actions against these practices.
